Ireland, Day 7 - Bunratty Castle Grounds and Folk Center

After the castle we toured the grounds, gardens, and shops in the folk center.

Replica of a school built by a local Catholic, who allowed Protestant children to attend as well as Catholic children, including his own. The school had separate rooms and separate entires for girls and boys.

The central fireplace was open to both rooms. Teacher closest to it on both sides, imagine that!

The young man portraying the teacher and giving us history, reminded us that teachers were held in high esteem, ranking right under priests and doctors. He said they still are. Current day teacher salaries in Ireland average 80,000 Euro a year which is $86,400 dollars. Keep in mind that the cost of living is higher.
