Crappie?

My first attempt at trying to hook this paper-mouthed fish was unsuccessful. The locator showed schools of fish in various parts of the lake where my guides expected them to be found. Depth - 10-15 feet. However, rain had delayed our launch and pursuit, and evidently their little bellies were full, or they were napping. No tempting by the newbie (me), nor my two "old pro" guides and mentors proved to be enticing. I think I managed to bop a few on the head, waking them to the presence of more food, but only felt nudges.

I was reminded of some fishing techniques and mechanics from years ago that may apply to gear, while also learning some new tricks specifically for this "yet to be seen or caught by me" fish. They must exist. I hear too much talk about them for it all to be fabricated.

While I had fun and enjoyed my time on the water, I was fortunate that there was other food available for supper, since I provided none. I have never eaten crappie, so I am looking forward to that experience.

Firsts-

Using an ultralight rig.

Using live bait.

Fishing from a boat.

First time after crappie.

Not firsts-

Getting snagged on underwater brush.

Having to cut a tangled mess from my open-faced reel due to not paying attention to what I was doing.

Hope-

That the future will bring some actual funny stories! (and success)
