Better late than never...

This morning grandpop was once again in his happy place. I was in the kitchen cooking bacon for the grands (fixing breakfast for them is one of my favorite things to do). I started thinking about how happy this makes me, and wondering why I didn’t do it for my children. I concluded that age and life experience has a lot to do with it.

When I was young and had children, I was always in a hurry to write a Sunday School lesson, or a sermon, play my guitar, work on a vehicle in the garage, go hunting, or play golf. I was selfish. I loved my girls, but they were not the priority that they should have been. I did not realize how precious relationships are, and how short life on earth can be.

I now cook, clean the stove, wipe down the counters, and do the dishes, and I enjoy it! Years ago, this would have been cruel and unusual punishment. I am thankful for the young fathers who do these things for their children, realizing the importance and privilege of such acts. I am grateful too, that God allows some of us to live long enough to be grandfathers, and learn these lessons. For me, at least, better late than never.
